Review of Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Cape Elizabeth
Star Rating - 3/5/2012
Moved to CE in 2007 and find it to be very beautiful seacoast town that includes farms, Maine coast views, great seafood and local produce, and a homey feel. The local supermarket is a great place to shop. There are three movie theaters in neighboring Portland, South Portland and Falmouth. Cape Elizabeth is the "wealthiest" town in Maine, but not everyone who lives in the town is wealthy. Public schools in Cape are excellent, and therefore the property taxes are rather high. The City of Portland is 5 minutes away, and is a small and lively town featuring a great harbor, lots of fish markets and boutique-y shops and a wide mix of "types". In addition there are two universities right in the metro area. In all, it's a great place to raise a family but not so great if you are retiring on your own or looking for employment opportunities. In general, jobs are poorly paid and opportunities to improve your lot are sparse. State taxes for business owners are very high and a huge turnoff to most entrepreneurs. Churches are poorly attended. People tend to be a bit reserved until you get to know them, which takes a long time.
